Paul Ripley: The "Driving Doctor" |

The similarities between bad health and bad driving are real, quite alarming and - sometimes - downright dangerous! Many people ask Paul how he acquired the nickname, the “Driving Doctor”. The answer is simple; he got the tag when he used to make weekly appearances on Channel 4 TV’s motoring program, ‘Driven’.
Paul’s role in the show was to prescribe safety “tablets” and “remedies” to drivers who needed to improve their practices and attitudes. Many guests invited on to the program had poor driving records or needed to learn new skills, often following serious traffic accidents. Paul would listen to their driving “ailments” then offer a sensible “diagnosis” and a “prescription” of driving remedies coupled with a commonsense dose of safety medication. It was a bit like a real doctor, hence the name – The “Driving Doctor”!
Explaining Safety Skills Some simple yet revealing examples: very few drivers have ever been taught how to take corners properly, or how to overtake safely. Paul would explain safety skills and techniques to rid them of their poor, often life-threatening, driving habits. His driving “diagnosis” was followed by remedial “potions” of correct techniques and safety “tablets”. The name stuck like glue and many people still refer to Paul as the “Driving Doctor” to this day! Paul certainly enjoys helping others to better health behind the wheel, particularly those suffering from a poor attitude coupled with high levels of stress and the occasional loss of temper. When you are driving, these symptoms pose a great danger to your health and are even potential killers. Some drivers’ attitudes can change from friendliness to outright hostility in an instant. The consequences are that these drivers frequently proceed to cause accidents and injuries… to themselves and to others. Practical Guidance Let Paul Ripley – the Driving Doctor – administer a safety inoculation to give you many more years of driving enjoyment. Do read his practical guidance in the ‘Ask Ripley’ section and pay particular attention to Paul’s advice on developing a healthy attitude. It will do wonders for your safety on the road. What’s the Driving Doctor’s prescription for young drivers who take risks? “Realize that driving is the most dangerous thing you do on a daily basis,” says Paul. “Don't become a statistic – think ‘safety’ and change your attitude right away. You can make the evolution of safety into a revolution and you can save lives, including your own!" |

Mission Statement
Safety is the first consideration in any driving situation. We instill this crucial belief in the motorist’s mind to develop a considerate attitude and superior skills behind the wheel. Together, we can save lives. Nothing is as important as that.

Testimonial
Paul Ripley was the road safety columnist for Britain’s best-selling quality newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, for more than seven years, dispensing down-to earth, inspirational advice to the million-plus readers of the paper’s weekly Motoring section. When his award-winning column eventually came to an end, many of them complained and some even wept; more significantly, the newspaper received letters from drivers who had certainly avoided death and injury to themselves and others by recalling his advice in an emergency. Known as “God’s Chauffeur” for his astonishing skill, impeccable smoothness and uncanny powers of observation behind the wheel, Paul is one of the world’s most highly qualified experts on all aspects of road driving. To see him at work is a life-changing and quite possibly life-saving experience. Peter Hall, Motoring Editor The Daily Telegraph
